I woke suddenly one night, years ago, for no particular reason. It was summer and very warm so maybe that was why. Anyway, I rushed out of bed and like a kid at Christmas, walked straight to the open bedroom window, the top of which reached almost to the overhanging pitch of the roof. We had special guests staying. Over the previous weeks they had constructed their own annexe from rich river mud and cow dung. They loved the house so much that they decided to settle in and raise a family. I felt honoured that they should enjoy our company too and wanted them to stay for good, but couldn't bring myself to tell them. &
